Trauma + The Reversal of Roe

Millennial women have never known a time when they didn’t have full body autonomy.

But now?

As of June 24th, due to the reversal of Roe, women across the country no longer have the freedom to make their own decisions about their personal wellbeing.

For the first time in their lives, millennial women are fearful for their future: “Will I be able to have the career I want?

“Will I be able to have a family WHEN I want?

“Will I be FORCED to carry to term a pregnancy I didn’t choose?

A woman’s independence has been shattered and when that happens, something sinister happens: TRAUMA.

The trauma imposed by the overturning of Roe v Wade is insidious.

It is now, as we speak, invading a woman’s soul just like a parasite. It is wreaking havoc on a woman’s ability to feel safe and secure in her personhood.

Like an abuser toward their victim: it controls every aspect of their life and slowly eats away at their emotional wellness.

Women are feeling alone; trapped.

Hopeless for the lives they have been working tirelessly to achieve.

And the long-term effects on their mental health could be staggering.

long-term effects

Across the country, millennial women are at great risk for experiencing detrimental effects of the reversal of Roe.

Because we’re already seeing the negative effects of this action, mental health professionals are concerned for the wellbeing of their clients.

For good reason.

One major reason is the potential for women to develop PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

PTSD kicks in after someone has experienced something traumatic. A life-threatening abortion would be one example.

The trauma from undergoing an illegal, risky procedure or a forced pregnancy is astounding.

You see, trauma lives deep in our body. It lies in our body’s most basic cells & can lead to a lifetime of suffering.

This is what women are now facing.

High levels of anxiety, sleepless nights, panic attacks, terrifying nightmares…the list of possible mental health difficulties is long.

The fear women today are feeling is real.
